Displays are normally measured in inches (symbol: "), which corresponds to the display diagonal. The most common notebook displays measure between 10.4" and 17.1". 1 inch equals 2.54 cm.

However, the big displays (15 and 17 inch) are manufactured preferably in 16:9 format, i.e. in contrast to the standard format 4:3  the display is a bit shorter but wider.
